2. What about the Euro?

Ebuyer Office Suite supports the Euro to the same extent as the operating system. Support for the Euro is built-in to Windows 98 and the Euro symbol is just a standard character in most fonts. The symbol is obtained by Ctrl-Alt-4. Note that it can be used as part of number formatting in Spreadsheet - select Tools/Options and in the Leading/Trailing Strings box, insert the Euro symbol (e.g. click in the box, press Ctrl-Enter for a new line and then Ctrl-Alt-4). You can apply this format to any numbers by selecting Format/Number, clicking the Leading radio button and selecting the Euro from the pick list.

For Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95 users, a patch must be downloaded from Microsoft. See http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/default.asp

For further information, see http://www.microsoft.com/windows/euro.asp

3. Trying to open a file and the Ebuyer Office Suite logo stays on screen

This can happen if you accidentally open a non supported file with Ebuyer Office Suite. A common example is trying to use Ebuyer Office Suite Write to open an Adobe PDF file. If as well, the "Always use this program..." checkbox is clicked, then PDF will be associated with Ebuyer Office Suite Write and every time you try to open a PDF from Windows Explorer, the Ebuyer Office Suite logo will appear on screen then freeze, since it cannot handle this file format.

To remove the association between Ebuyer Office Suite and PDF (or any other file format incorrectly associated with Ebuyer Office Suite), do the following:

  1. Select Start/Programs/Widows Explorer.
  2. Select Tools/Options (or Folder Options)/File Types.
  3. Choose "Adobe Acrobat Document (PDF)" or any whatever file type is causing you a problem.
  4. Click Remove and close the dialog.

Now try to open the PDF file directly from Windows Explorer (i.e. double-click on it). When prompted to pick a program, choose Adobe Acrobat and check the "Always use this program..." box.

5. How do I automatically open file type XYZ in an Email with
Ebuyer Office Suite

Windows allows one (and only one) program to be associated with a particular file type. For example, .doc is often associated with Microsoft Word, .aww Ebuyer Office Suite Write. You can choose which program opens what files types (and also remove any unwanted associations). This affects opening attachments in email and opening files using Explorer.
If you want to use Ebuyer Office Suite to open Microsoft documents, you can change the association for the following file types:

File ExtensionMicrosoftEbuyer Office Suite
DOCWordWrite
XLSExcelSpreadsheet
MDBAccessDatabase
PPTPowerpointPresentation

Changing the setting depends on what version of Windows you are running.

Windows XP

  1. Select Start/My Computer
  2. Select Tools/Folder Options
  3. Select the File Types tab
  4. Find the file type you want and click Delete
  5. The next time you open that particular file type (double-click in Windows Explorer or double-click in your email client) you'll be prompted to select a program - just pick the application you want and check the "Always use this program..." box.

Windows 98

  1. Select Start/Programs/Windows Explorer
  2. Select View/Folder Options
  3. Select the File Types tab
  4. Find the file type you want and click Remove
  5. The next time you open that particular file type (double-click in Windows Explorer or double-click in your email client) you'll be prompted to select a program - just pick the application you want and check the "Always use this program..." box.

You can use the above method to remove an unwanted association - for example, if you've accidently associated PDF with Ebuyer Office Suite (which can create PDF files but cannot read them).

6. General File/Send problems

When an Ebuyer Office Suite application loads, it checks Windows to see if a service called "MAPI" is installed. If yes, then it makes File/Send available in the menus (if not, this command is hidden). MAPI is typically installed by Outlook Express, Outlook and some other email programs. There is a problem with MAPI in that there are different versions and sometimes MAPI configuration and other internet settings can cause File/Send to fail.

Before reporting File/Send problems, please check the following:

  1. Is Send visible on the file menu? If not, MAPI is not installed - try installing Outlook Express.
  2. Does Send work from other applications? Try a Microsoft application - select Start/Accessories/Wordpad, type some text and select File/Send. If this fails then something is wrong with your MAPI or Email client setup. Check with your email client vendor for a FAQ on this topic.
  3. Will your email client accept some attachments and not others? When using File/Send, Ebuyer Office Suite will default to it's own format. Try saving in a Microsoft format (e.g. Word or Excel) using the File/Save As command and then repeating the File/Send.

Two further points:

  • Will the recipient of your email be able to read the file you are about to send
  • If you still cannot get File/Send to work, simply save the file, switch to your email client, create an email and insert the attachment using the commands available in your email client (typically Insert/Attachment or a toolbar button showing a paperclip.

Finally, when reporting File/Send problems to Ebuyer Office Suite, please make sure you state the default mail client in use and as much detail from the above as possible.

7. How to provide the right information

Why am I being referred to this page? You may have been sent an email back from support asking you to read this FAQ. The most likely reason is that the query you raised did not contain sufficient detail. In all cases, we need the following information as an absolute minimum:

  1. Version of Ebuyer Office Suite in use. This is the number in the format 4.7.000 displayed in the Help/About dialog in any Ebuyer Office Suite application.
  2. Product key. This is also displayed in the Help/About dialog.
  3. Version of Windows in use.
  4. A good description of what happened. For example, if a file won't open, say what the exact error message is and what type of file it is and whether it happens with all files of this type of just a one off and any other details that might give us a clue. If we don't have to guess, the response will be accurate (and quicker).
  5. Please always use the built-in help mechanism. It will save having to work out the first 3 items above. Select Help/Online Support within any application. Or, select Start/Programs/Ebuyer Office Suite/Tools/Technical Support.
  6. A note on replying. If you recieve a reply from support and you wish to respond, PLEASE ALWAYS INCLUDE THE ENTIRE "CONVERSATION" IN THE RESPONSE. If we receive an email saying nothing other than "You were wrong, it still doesn't work", we have to try and piece together the full story. Note that most email clients include the original message by default - if you have turned it off, please copy the entire message (including all your original text) and paste it below your latest response.
